Practical guide

What to prepare before asking for bookkeeping help

A short checklist to make your first handover easier, even if you’re catching up.

Start with the task, not the paperwork

Describe what’s outstanding, which dates it covers and when you need it done. A short explanation is enough for an initial conversation.

Gather the supporting records

For an agreed bookkeeping task, useful records may include bank statements for the period, sales invoices, supplier invoices and receipts. Keep a copy of your originals.

Flag what you’re unsure about

Make a list of unidentified payments, missing receipts or transactions you want to discuss. Don’t guess just to fill a gap.

Agree on access before sharing

Confirm the task, fee, deadline and document-sharing method first. Avoid sending passwords or sensitive records in an initial enquiry.

General organisational guidance. The work and records needed will depend on your individual circumstances.

Start with one task.

Tell me what’s outstanding. We’ll agree on a fee and deadline.
